What do we do?1. Library and help with homeworkThe library achieves the two objectives of making available books and materials to support the children in their school work, and also providing profesors to assist with homework. Currently 25-30 adolescents attend the library in the mornings and 120 children attend in the afternoon. 2. Vacation programme This programme integrates learning with the development of capacities and abilities through leisure and recreational activities. We provide workshops in theatre, dance, music, crafts, sports and magic, as well as classes in logic and maths, and communication. There are classes in naration and story writing for the younger children and classes in writing fuller texts for adolescents. 3. School bags
The right to an education that every child has also implies that children should have acess to the materials needed to study and attend school. Therefore, we create and dispatch school bags every year in the last week of ferurary that contain all the materials needed for a sucessful year at school. Each bag costs $30 and includes A4 notebooks, small notebooks, markers, pencils, rulers, paper and coloured pencils etc.
4. Artistic workshops
These workshops cultivate and grow the abilities and potential of the students. At the end of each year we organise a public production, performed by the students in front of their parents and the community, or in their courses. 5. Participation in cultural events or activities One of our objectives is to extend the social and cultural spectrum of the children and provide them with oppertunities to become involved in the artistic and cultural activies the city offers. In this way we try to intergrate the children and adolescents in these spaces while providing security and breaking down barriers of discrimination 6. Programme of solidary support The professionalisation of young people not only benefits the individual but also the community and their families. The selection or subsidisation of the candidates to undertake training is made through social evaluation and based on family commitment to support the eduaction process. 7. Refreshments and snacks From March to December we offer the students snacks and refreshements. The girls and boys take turns to prepare these. 8. Kingdergarden - programme education inicial ("the little ants") 29 children aged between 4 and 5 years old attend regular classes in the kindergarden.
